At least four teenagers were arrested late on Wednesday night after violent unrest broke out in Birmingham. The disturbances continued into Thursday morning, with police reporting further incidents across the city.
West Midlands Police confirmed that four boys were taken into custody on suspicion of violent disorder. The arrests followed reports of officers being attacked with fireworks in the Dale End area. Police also said they seized several weapons at the scene.
“Disorder involving young people saw fireworks released in a dangerous manner, as members of the public and our officers were attacked,” the force stated.
Authorities added that such chaos would not be tolerated, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining public safety.
Despite the warnings, social media footage later captured another wave of violence on Staniforth Street. Armed police units were dispatched as hundreds of masked youths were seen throwing fireworks and flares at officers, vehicles, and even at one another.
“Live-streamed videos showed groups of young men dressed in dark clothing, with their faces covered, gathering around an underpass as the situation escalated,” witnesses reported.
Police are also investigating a separate arson attack at a local war memorial earlier in the week, just days before Remembrance Sunday. It is not yet clear if the two incidents are connected.
Summary: Overnight riots in Birmingham led to multiple teenage arrests, weapon seizures, and renewed concerns over escalating youth violence ahead of Remembrance events.
