Carrie Bickmore Named 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria
Broadcaster and charity advocate Carrie Bickmore OAM has been honoured as the 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria. The award was presented during a ceremony in Melbourne on November 6.
Commitment to Brain Cancer Research
Since 2015, Bickmore has helped raise more than $27 million for brain cancer research. In 2021, she established The Brain Cancer Centre to unite top researchers in finding a cure. The centre funds innovative projects nationwide and runs pioneering clinical trials for patients.
“Brain cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease, and more people under 40 than any other cancer,” she said, referencing her late husband Greg, who died of the illness in 2010.
Other Award Recipients
- Senior Australian of the Year (Victoria): Bryan Lipmann AM, founder of Wintringham, an organisation that provides housing and care for elderly Australians experiencing homelessness. Wintringham currently supports around 3,000 people.
- Young Australian of the Year (Victoria): Abraham Kuol.
